Super Mario Sunshine is coming to Nintendo Switch 2 on August 13, 2026, through the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack service. The GameCube title will be available only on Nintendo’s newer console.

Originally released in 2002, Super Mario Sunshine remains one of the more divisive entries in the series. Its unusual movement mechanics and FLUDD-based gameplay gave it a distinct identity, even though some players criticized its technical issues and uneven design.

The new release also reduces the practical value of Super Mario 3D All-Stars, the limited collection that included Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, and Super Mario Galaxy. Nintendo removed that package from digital and physical sale in March 2021, causing second-hand prices to rise significantly.

Super Mario 64 is already available through Nintendo Switch Online, while Super Mario Galaxy received another release alongside Super Mario Galaxy 2 in 2025. With Sunshine now joining the service, most of the collection can be accessed elsewhere.

Physical copies of Super Mario 3D All-Stars may still interest collectors, but players who only want access to the included games have fewer reasons to pay inflated resale prices.

Super Mario Sunshine will be playable for Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscribers from August 13. The game will also support Nintendo’s wireless GameCube-style controller.
